globe-global-warming-worldThe old adage, “it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity,” will come into play more often and in more places because of climate change, with life-altering results in southern U.S. cities from Miami to Atlanta to Washington and even northern ones such as New York, Chicago and Seattle.

“As temperatures rise, toward the end of the century, less than an hour of activity outdoors in the shade could cause a moderately fit individual to suffer heat stroke,” said climatologist Robert Kopp of Rutgers University, lead scientific author of the report. “That’s something that doesn’t exist anywhere in the world today.”

That result emerges from the heat-and-humidity analysis in “Risky Business,” the report on the economic consequences of climate change released on Tuesday. The analysis goes beyond other studies, which have focused on rising temperatures, to incorporate growing medical understanding of the physiological effects of heat and humidity, as well as research on how and where humidity levels will likely rise as the climate changes.

  1. is there any science that supports the evidence for global warming that was not conducted or sponsored by a group with an agenda (to promote global warming theories)

  2. Re this sensationalist fear mongering headline – I don’t believe it is supported by the rest of the article if you read it carefully.

Secondly, scientists don’t know everything. The issue is debated among scientists themselves. So a site like matzav should not just run a one sided claim or report.

Finally, the words of our holy gemara came to me, where Chazal talk about a future ‘global warming’ and say the following, in maseches avoda zara, starting on daf gimmel amud beis:

    ???? ??? ????? ?? ????: ??? ????? ????? ???, ??? ????? ???? ??? ????? ??? ??????? ??????: ????? ??????? ??, ??????? ??????? ??: ????? ??????? ??, ????? (????? ? ??) ?? ??? ???? ?? ???? ????? ???? ?? ???? ??? ???? ???? ?? ???? ???? ???? ??? ??? ?’ ????? ??? ?? ????? ??? ???? ????: ?? ???? ????? ???, ??? ??? ????? ???; ?????? ??????? ?? ????? (????? ? ?) ????? ??? ???? ??? ??? ???? ????? ?????? [?????? ????? ????? ????]; ??? ??? ??? ???????? ??, ????? ‘?????? ????? ????? ????’

This helps us to understand why the tzadikim of our time are not worried about it, while those who are not tzadikim are terrified.

  3. Hey. Climate changes, you know? Does anyone reasonably expect the temperature to remain the same for an indefinite period of time??

Man-made effects on climate are such a secular concept. News flash: Hashem runs the world and controls the climate as part of running the world.

So before anybody goes jumping off the deep end about this ridiculous HOAX that is being perpetrated upon people by scientists who are essentially bankrolled by wealthy left wing radicals, just remember who runs the world.

    It certainly is NOT Obama.

  4. “The issue is debated among scientists themselves.”

Not really. There is no debate whatsoever as to whether the earth has gotten warmer. The questions are as follows: (1) Why that happened, for which there is some discussion among scientists, (2) What to do about it, which is a mixture of scientific and public policy matters.

” the tzadikim of our time are not worried about it”

The primary manifestation of global warming, if it continues, will be the loss of polar ice caps and more extreme weather. This will make many sea level communities inhospitable if not actually under water. I would be concerned.
