SCOTUS Expands Whistleblower Law

supreme-courtIn a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that protections in a whistleblower law passed after the Enron scandal should apply to employees of publicly traded companies, as well as contractors.

The case involved two former employees of Fidelity, who claimed they were retaliated against after reporting allegations of fraud.

In a dissent along with Justices Alito and Kennedy, Sonia Sotomayor wrote that the decision allows the law “stunning reach” and warned that it could allow babysitters to bring federal cases against a family that employs them. Read more at Newsday.
