In a blow to anti-abortion activists, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from Arizona asking to reinstate a state law which banned most abortions after 20 weeks. As is the custom, there was no reason offered by the justices.
The law was initially enacted in 2012, and prohibited abortions except in medical emergencies (which it controversially defined narrowly). A three-judge panel had ruled the law unconstitutional in May.
