The Daily Beast reports that Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) fired back today at President Trump for saying he won New Hampshire in the presidential election because the state is a “drug-infested den,” labeling his leaked phone-call comments as a slap in the face to efforts to fight the opioid epidemic.
“They are disgusting comments, and instead of insulting people who are in the throes of addiction, we need action,” Hassan told The Daily Beast. “We really would appreciate actions and resources from the administration, rather than insults.” Hassan said the Trump administration’s budget plans are “deeply harmful and have set us back in our efforts to combat” the opioid epidemic. Trump made the comments during a phone call with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in January. The Washington Post obtained a transcript of the call and published it today.
