Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., plans to give a speech in the coming days that compares President Donald Trump’s public criticism of the news media to similar comments once made by Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.

A spokesman said that Flake, who will retire after this year amid intense political pressure sparked by his criticism of the president, plans to deliver the speech Wednesday before Trump announces the winners of his self-described “fake news” awards.

Flake plans to use his upcoming speech to denounce Trump for calling the news media “the enemy of the American people” last year.

In excerpts provided by his office, he is poised to blast Trump’s “unrelenting daily assault on the constitutionally-protected free press” that he will call “as unprecedented as it is unwarranted.”

“It is a testament to the condition of our democracy that our own president uses words infamously spoken by Josef Stalin to describe his enemies,” Flake will say, according to the excerpts. “It bears noting that so fraught with malice was the phrase ‘enemy of the people,’ that even Nikita Khrushchev forbade its use, telling the Soviet Communist Party that the phrase had been introduced by Stalin for the purpose of ‘annihilating such individuals’ who disagreed with the supreme leader.”

Flake will add that Trump “has it precisely backward – despotism is the enemy of the people. The free press is the despot’s enemy, which makes the free press the guardian of democracy. When a figure in power reflexively calls any press that doesn’t suit him ‘fake news,’ it is that person who should be the figure of suspicion, not the press.”

“I don’t think that we should be using a phrase that’s been rejected as too loaded by a Soviet dictator,” Flake said on “Kasie DC.”

  1. Glue folks. Mr. Trumps grandfather was noted to be interested in horse meat. I wonder if the family precision has stuck. In all, one might wonder what has been feeding this family for years.

Kosher Jared, I hope you are smart enough not to eat dinner at the same table as the gentile. It is New York history to earn with the fellow jews. Enjoy your kosher life. Give him the advice from your Chabad. They will be the ones we think drive this new presidency.

    Watch the acid reflux.

  2. Flaky Flake Just Doesn’t Get It !
You need to stand for something in order to get traction.
These foolish attempts to get attention, just will not cut it.

  3. These are the “Republicans” that President Trump has to contend with on a daily basis.

Not only is mainstream media “the enemy of the American people” so are RINOs, like Flake. The American people have learned that Democrats in general and RINOs are nothing but selfish, evil with animalistic behavior who cannot tolerate moral upstanding people.

UNDENIABLE FACT: Democrats, RINOs and Mainstream Media have done real damage to our standing in the world

  4. Flake is an idiot. He had his little tizzy earlier in the year and got a lot of love from the democrats for it. If he had any brains, he should leave the scene quietly. The only reason he is retiring/resigning is because he is down in the polls and would lose embarrassingly to an unheard of candidate. Flake is a nobody. He accomplished nothing in his time in the Senate. He is a L O S E R. He knows the media will fawn over his every criticism of the hated Republican party. He is the temporary media darling. They already moved on from Frederica Wilson. He is, in essence, a useful idiot of the DNC controlled media. As soon as he’s out, they will throw him under the bus so fast, he won’t know what hit him. That is how the corrupt democrat machine works. He, apparently, is to stupid to acknowledge that.

  5. Flake is such a loser. Him and McCain are two absolutely sad shows to watch. Both from Arizona. And both pit to damage the president. And both have zero respect except from the democrats and themselves. Sad!

  6. The difference is that the Russians didn’t have Twitter, InstaGram, FaceBook……..to counteract Stalin, just like the US didn’t have them and had to rely on the “free” press. We can determine whether something is true or false by listening for ourselves. We don’t need a “talking head” to explain to us why a word that MAY have been used in PRIVATE (as reported by Senator Durbin) was appropriate or not.

  7. Flake should become an advertisement pitcher for Head & Shoulders.
Has he accomplished anything while in DC? Anything?
