joe-liebermanA spokeswoman for Sen. Joseph Lieberman says his Hartford office has alerted U.S. Capitol police about a suspicious piece of mail.

Spokeswoman Whitney Phillips says Capitol police issued a warning about the possibility of suspicious packages sent to senators’ home offices, and the letter has some of the same characteristics. She said Lieberman was out at an event when the letter arrived Thursday.

The office was briefly evacuated Thursday afternoon while law enforcement responders removed the suspicious mail for testing.

The FBI and the Senate’s top law enforcement officer said Wednesday that some congressional offices outside Washington and media organizations have received threatening letters containing a suspicious powdery substance that was tested and proved to be harmless.

Phillips said the Hartford letter was postmarked Portland, Ore., like the others.

  1. Thanks for a really unappealing photo of a Great Senator who is even a Jew who keeps our commandments in some very true ways.
