rubashkin1[Donate link below.] Sentencing for Reb Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin has been set for April 28.  Reb Sholom Mordechai faces a maximum of 27 years in prison based on recommendations by federal prosecutors when he is sentenced in U.S. District Court in Iowa on 86 counts.

Last Friday, Reb Sholom Mordechai’s lawyers asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review his conviction in the District Court of Northern Iowa, in hopes that the highest court in the country will find reason to revisit the case. The lawyers filed a petition for a writ of certiorari, in which the Supreme Court agrees to review a lower court’s case. His lawyers have appealed to have the conviction overturned, or for their client to get a new trial altogether. The appellate court has denied Reb Sholom Mordechai’s requests. He also has been denied bail on several occasions.

Reb Sholom Mordechai’s Supreme Court tactic is a long shot: The Court grants only about 1 percent of the petitions it receives.

Meanwhile, Rubashkin and other executives of Agriprocessors are due to stand trial on state child labor charges beginning in early May.

Reb Sholom Mordechai has been held in prison since his November conviction after being denied bail.

  1. I still remember hearing that he used to give all chosonim their clothes before their chossena. He’s an Ish Chessed and a Chossid.
HaShem should take away the gevuroh from him and he should go home to his meshpucha.
