It is with great sadness that we report the passing of 25-year-old Shalom Yochai Sharki z”l, who was hit by a vehicle in Yerushalayim Wednesday night and succumbed to his wounds this morning.
A woman also hurt in the incident remains in very series condition.
Shalom and the woman were seriously injured by the car at the French Hill junction in Yerushalayim as they waited for a bus.
Magen David Adom rescue personnel treated the victims and the driver, an Arab man from northern Yerushalayim.
It remains unclear whether the incident was an accident or a deliberate attack.
Shalom was a son of Rabbi Uri Sherki and a brother of Channel Two journalist Yair Sherki. Alegrian-born and France-raised Rabbi Uri Sherki is well-known in Religious Zionist circles and was a close talmid of Rav Tzvi Yehuda Kook.
The levaya for Shalom will be held today.
Police suspect that terror might have been the motive of the driver, who sought to kill Jews on the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day, police sources said.
