peresThe U.S. House of Representatives has approved legislation awarding Israeli President Shimon Peres with the Congressional Gold Medal.

Awarded since the American Revolution, the Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian decoration in the U.S., and is given to individuals who perform “an outstanding deed or act of service to the security, prosperity, and national interest of the United States.”

The bipartisan legislation honoring Peres was introduced by U.S. Reps. Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Joe Kennedy (D-MA).

“President Shimon Peres has embodied a commitment to the mutual values shared by the United States and Israel-values that include the preservation of life, faith, family, and freedom,” Franks said in a statement.

Peres, who plans to retire after his seven-year term expires in July, is set to visit the White House in late June. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from U.S. President Barack Obama in 2012, making him one of only nine people to earn both that honor and the Congressional Gold Medal.

  1. And why should we, the dumb stupid taxpayers, fund this nonsense? Cant we use US taxpayers money for better things?

  2. They are giving all these medals to a man that keeps on giving to others and takes bows for others accomplishments. Just like the peace prize to Obama because he was breathing at the time.

  3. #5, Anonymous. Do you know anything of his history? Don’t think so, otherwise, you would not say kol hakovod. Oy vey.
