Sick Benefits For Yungeleit

The Knesset Legislative Committee recently approved a bill submitted by MKs Moshe Gafni and Uri Maklev of UTJ to recognize yungeleit and university students as “workers” in regard to getting parental leave for sick children. The bill still has to pass three Knesset readings.

According to Israeli law, a worker may take eight days of leave annually to care for sick children on condition that one’s spouse also works. The present law excludes the working spouses of yungeleit and students.

“We have come to correct an injustice,” Maklev said.
