The building is home to Rav Ashkanezi’s shul, Khal Dvar Moshe, the Horodenke Bais Medrash, located on the first floor. The rov, Rav Chanoch Henoch Ashkenazi, lives on the upper floor.

Five Sifrei Torah were taken out of the shul in time, boruch Hashem.

Heavy flames shot through the roof and one firefighter was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but Rav Ashkenazi said that a candle could be the cause, according to WABC.

  1. Why are candles being burned in such a place bichlal?

There are pesokim from great poskim advocating that even for something like bedikas chometz, which is a halocho from way back, brought in Chazal, that a flashlight be used if there is a chashash sakonoh. ????? ????? ???????. Kal vachomer, for something that is not a halocho!

Was shacharis still being davened at 10AM? If candles are used anyway, by some people, as done among Chasidim, they should not be left alone and should be extinguished when no one is left to watch them.

  2. to #2… obviously talking during krias hatorah was not the problem because they sifrei torah were saved. now the siddurim burned, so one must be careful not to talk during davening

  3. Hey there Mr. Makpid, you ought also be makpid SENSITIVE & SENSIBLE!

To use your lingo, one must be careful to say what needs to be said the proper way and at the proper time! I’m surprised at you!
