sefer-torahThe members of the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh shul, a Moroccan shul on the outskirts of Yerushalayim’s Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood, were shocked when they arrived for Shacharis only to find that thieves had broken into the aron kodesh and made off with all six sifrei Torah, shofars, a Megillas Esther and other valuable articles. The gabboim filed a police report, but so far investigators have no leads. The burglary took place late Wednesday night of last week. Gabbai Avraham Biton told Yated Ne’eman that because the shul is situated on the outskirts of the neighborhood in an out-of-the-way location even out of sight of nearby residents, none of the neighbors heard any noise or noticed anything unusual taking place.

Meanwhile in Beer Sheva, vandals have been regularly removing and desecrating mezuzahs on the door posts of numerous stores in the Old City. In some cases the mezuzas are stolen, while in other cases they are tossed onto the ground nearby. Often fires are also lit in trash cans.

Following repeated incidents, several business owners have been forced to post mezuzahs on the interior portion of the doorway.
