A study that claims to be the first to analyze the effects of microscopic air pollutants on people’s long-term health found a link between chronic exposure and early death from heart disease.

The study analyzed 100,000 middle-age women in California from 2001 to 2007 and found an especially strong link between heart disease and certain components of ultra-fine particles, including exhaust from diesel engines and copper from brake pads. Ultra-fine particles are not regulated by state and federal emissions rules. Read more at the Los Angeles Times.
