al-sharptonAccording to documents posted on thesmokinggun.com, Al Sharpton served as a secret FBI informant who helped bring down members of New York’s top crime families.

Although it was known that he worked with the FBI in the early 1980s, Sharpton, who was known as “CI (Confidential Informant) 7” reportedly had a bugged briefcase to record exchanges with mobsters. His information helped the FBI secure wiretaps on two Genovese family social clubs, including Vincent “The Chin” Gigante’s headquarters.

Sharpton told the New York Post that the report exaggerated his informant role, “It’s crazy. If I provided all the information they claimed I provided, I should be given a ticker tape parade.” Read more at The Smoking Gun.

  1. Early on, I think that Mr. Sharpton was actually an FBI informant to tell them which hamburgers were better. He keeps his privacy as close as a wire coat. Look real good, Al!
