The IDF soldier who shot the neutralized terrorist in Chevron Purim time was been indicted for manslaughter today by the Military Advocate General at the Yaffo Military Court.
The name of the soldier was released today. Elor Azaria was arrested by Military Police on March 24 following the shooting of a Palestinian assailant after he was already wounded and lying motionless on the ground.
If the soldier is convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
In the indictment, the Military Advocate General said that the terrorist, Abed al Fatah a-Sharif, “was left lying on the ground, was still alive, and did not present any real and immediate danger to the lives of the civilians or soldiers who were near him. All this was carried out contrary to the rules of engagement and without justification, as terrorist a-Sharif was lying hurt on the ground. He did not carry out another attack and was not presenting any immediate danger to the defendant or the civilians and soldiers who were at the scene. The defendant’s actions illegally caused the death of the terrorist.”
A rally in support of the soldier is scheduled for tonight at Rabin Square in Tel Aviv.
