Stephen Hawking, the British theoretical physicist who overcame a devastating neurological disease to probe the greatest mysteries of the cosmos and become a globally celebrated symbol of the power of the human mind, has died, a family spokesman told the Associated Press. He was 76.

Unable to move a muscle, speechless but for a computer-synthesized voice, Dr. Hawking had suffered since the age of 21 from a degenerative motor neuron disease similar to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Initially given two years to live, a diagnosis that threw him into a profound depression, he found the strength to complete his doctorate and rise to the position of Lucasian professor of mathematics at the University of Cambridge, the same post held by Isaac Newton 300 years earlier.

  1. He was also a supporter of BDS and pro Palestine rights and some of his comments bordered on Anti semitism. Doesnt need a Hesped or Obituary on this website.
“If Israel wants peace, it will have to talk to Hamas, like Britain did with the IRA. Hamas are the democratically elected leaders of the Palestinian people, and cannot be ignored,” he said. “The situation is like that in South Africa before 1990. It cannot continue” quoted by the Atlantic 2013″

  2. He was probably the smartest man alive at the time of his death. Unfortunately, towards the end of his life, he became a kofer.

    • “Smartest man alive.” Really? How can you say such a thing? Our gedolim shlita are much smarter than he was and have a greater understanding of the world than he did.

  3. Odd to go on Pi day. He was a genius. Just not mad other than an atheist militant who hated all religion that Hashem was mentioned.

G-d is cute. March 14th is denoted genius day. He had to go.

I feel better. One less living person to tell me that there is no G-d. Enough of my life is given them many.

    Let the genius go.

  4. Oops. I got it wrong. I was playing gematria games and forgot which was which. 451 is gematria for Ishmael. 541 for Israel. Pi does NOT start with Israel. Ishmael did discover algebra. He must have been free to do so.

Seemed funny but I was wrong. But odd numbers.

Mathematics still kosher, I hope. Funny.

  5. “Ishmael did discover algebra. ”

Actually, algebra was discovered by a Parsi, but he published in Arabic so it would popularize better.
