steve-loneganNew Jersey – Steve Lonegan, a Republican running against Newark Mayor Cory Booker for U.S. Senate from New Jersey, says today’s election pits him against a “made-up candidate” and is “an all-out referendum on everything [President Barack] Obama’s doing to the country.”

“This is a referendum on Obamacare, on the federal Department of Education’s intrusion into the education of our children, it’s a referendum on recent revelations about the NSA going even further than we thought in collecting our contact lists off of our computers,” Lonegan told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“So, a lot can be accomplished in New Jersey . . . we can really rock the political spectrum and also start putting America back on track.”

Lonegan, who hopes to capture the seat left vacant by the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg, a Democrat who died in June, has been hammering away at Democrat Booker’s record, focusing on Newark’s crime rate and questioning where he actually lives.

“Cory Booker’s a façade. He’s a made-up candidate. He’s made up by Hollywood . . . His issues and his points [are] determined by his consultants, his polling, and his acting coaches,” Lonegan said.

“He doesn’t know what he stands for or why he stands for whatever he stands for. I’m giving clear-cut straight talk to New Jersey [during] the entire 16 weeks of this election. It’s what resonates with voters. That’s what they’re hungry for.”

Lonegan said his hard-fought campaign has “exposed who [Booker] really is. We’ve defined the difference between me and him in a way that resonates with voters, with Republicans, with independents, and with conservative Reagan Democrats.”

He said New Jersey residents headed to the polls today are fed up with Washington.
