boko-haram-nigeriaWitnesses in Nigeria say more than 60 women and girls and 31 boys were abducted from villages in the northeast of the country. One witness, who is a member of an anti-Boko Haram group, said the abductions occurred Saturday following an attack in which four villagers were killed.

Boko Haram is suspected to be behind the kidnapping. The report of the kidnappings came from Kummabza, which is 95 miles from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state. A councilor from the village’s Damboa local government told the Associated Press the abductions had occurred, but also said he was not authorized to give information to reporters.

The Nigerian government has been criticized as being slow to react to the abduction of the more than 200 schoolgirls. Read more at Voice of America.
