Syrian Army forces flattened the 400-year-old Eliyahu Hanabi shul in the Jobar neighborhood of Damascus over the weekend. The area where the shul once stood has been under bombardment by Assad’s forces for months.
Before the conflict, the shul held thousands of religious and cultural treasures, including hundreds-years-old Sifrei Torah, historical texts, precious dining ware, and ancient Judaica.
All of the Jewish heritage items that remained inside the shul are feared lost. Read more and see photos here.
