Syria has accused Israel of aiding “terrorist groups” by firing missiles that hit near a military airport west of the capital early Friday. SANA, Syria’s state-run news agency, said several missiles launched from northern Israel landed near the Mezzeh military airport on the outskirts of Damascus, causing a fire in the area. It was unclear if there were casualties.

The Mezzeh airport, which has been used to carry out attacks on rebel-held areas, has previously been targeted by groups opposing Bashar al-Assad’s regime. According to the Associated Press, residents of Damascus said several explosions shook the capital around the time of the alleged Israeli strikes. Separately, a suicide bomber reportedly killed eight people in a neighborhood known to house security installations. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that at least four of those killed were soldiers. Read more.
