[Update below.] Janglo reports: Target has made a calculated decision to block Israeli users from accessing their website, target.com.

The American discount retail giant told a Janglo user in an email that “Target.com has made the conscious decision to block IP addresses originating from Israel.”

Janglo user Jennifer Bayer was frustrated that every time she tried to access target.com, she got an “Access Denied” message. After her friends confirmed that they were having the same problem, she contacted Target directly for an answer.

The company responded:

“Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and I hope you’ll accept my most sincere apologies for the troubles you’ve been through. I also truly appreciate your loyalty to Target and I want to do everything I can to help.

The reason you’re unable to place orders on Target.com from Israel is to ensure the data security of all our guests. Target.com has made the conscious decision to block IP addresses originating from Israel, as it is one of the top 5 countries from which malicious attacks against our website originate.

Although you can’t access the site from Israel, our team is more than happy to help you place a domestic order over the phone. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call at your convenience, our Target.com is available 24 hours a day, every day of the week. To place an order on Target.com you can call 1(800) 591-3869.”

Update: The site is now available to Israelis again and they are now offering a special discount code to Israelis.

  1. We should be curious as to what other locations are blocked. If only Israel, scream Antisemitism. If many nations, be concerned but wonder why Israel has the issue. Are there really hard attempts to hurt the conglomerates’ website? One is curious, but clearly antisemitism is a clear concern.

Scary times. There is too much hate to call anything other than the war room evil.

  2. This is no different than the policy of certain retailers (i.e. Macy’s, Lands End, LL Bean) to reject returns from postal zip codes related to Boro Park, Lakewood, Passaic, Williamburg, Kiryas Joel, etc.

Believe me, there is a substantive reason behind their decision.

    • Target’s gave the option to make a ‘domestic order’, i.e. locally, or locations that they actually have ‘brick and mortar stores’ and there are NONE in Israel. So yes, Target have lost their flipping minds. First with their allowing men with mental problems, i.e. those men with psychological, physiological, and pathological issues enter Targets female bathrooms at will, thus placing women ‘and’ children in extreme danger, as it has already been proven….and now this blatant anti-Semitic attack against Israel.

    • I suspect it has nothing to do with where you live. What is being blocked is probably IP addresses with the IL (Israel) suffix.

  3. Sounds like some folks took the name “Target” too seriously 😛

On a less jocular note, perhaps Target could make their site viewable while disallowing orders so people in Israel could have some idea of what they could order by phone? (IDK web programming – perhaps this is a ridiculous question.)

FWIW, it’s an awful feeling to see retailers feel they need to take anti-fraud measures against unzereh.

  4. I love how everyone jumps to conclusions and says Target must be boycotted, now!!!! Why not check facts first? My husband found an almost exactly worded story on another site, quoting a different person, using exactly the same words and letter from Target. I think this is a hoax.

  5. IT IS 100% TRUE!! THEY JUST UNBLOCKED ISRAELI USERS OBVIOUSLY DUE TO COMPLAINTS! For all those commenting that it works for them now, Target obviously just re-changed their policy. I am in Israel and have tried accessing their site many times over the last few weeks and have always gotten the Access Denied page, and just assumed I did mistakenly did something on my computer that caused it. I just tried again now after reading the above comments, and I do have access, so they obviously undid the block. Shame on Target, they should be boycotted for all their scandalous policies!!

  6. IT IS 1000% TRUE!! THEY JUST UNDID THE BLOCK TODAY! I am in Israel and have been trying to access their site many times in the last 2-3 weeks and always got the Access Denied page. I assumed that I mistakenly did something on my computer to cause the block. I just tried their site now after reading the above comments, and I once again have access. They should be boycotted for all their scandalous policies!!

  7. Target must have quickly changed their mind and allowed access for Israeli’s because I was definitely unable to get in to Target the past few weeks! ( and many of my Israeli friends as well)

  8. My wife and I joijed the boycott of Target begun by the AFA ever since they announced that the bathrooms in their stores would not respect the privacy of biological gender identity. We took it seriously and unsuscribed from their weekly ad and have not entered the local store for MONTHs. Their earnngs mid-year were down below projections and they withdrew their political activism. We now order all household goods from Walmart.

  9. true that now it is already open but i tried it many times and it didn’t work – instead i used their australian site but they don’t ship to israel…

    b”h now it works.

  10. I live in Israel and have tried to get into the Target web site for the Black Friday and during the Cyber week sales. I have tried to do so though several Israeli internet suppliers throughout the entire week.
All I got, until a few hours ago, was an “Access Denied” message. Even “Ynet” (one of the main Israeli news web sites) reported about not being able to access Target.com when they listed Black Friday specials.

Only now, once the news of this blocking got to American sites, did Target.com lift the blockade.
