eliyahu-bakshi-doronThe Rishon L’Tzion, Rav Eliyahu Bakshi Doron, was taken to the Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim today after feeling weak while attending a conference for the Puah Institute at Ulmei Nof in Yerushalayim. Rav Doron had been addressing the gathering when he felt ill and quickly sat down.

Ichud Hatzolah and Magen Dovid Adom personnel swiftly arrived to examine Rav Doron, who tried to resume his speech but could not. He was taken to the hospital, where physicians initially said that they suspected that the Rishon L’Tzion had suffered a mild stroke.

Rav Doron was stabilized and has been released.

The Yerushalayim-born Rav Doron, who is 70 years old, was appointed as Chief Rabbi of Bat Yam in 1972, and later, Haifa, in 1975, a position he held until 1993, when he became Chief Rabbi of Israel. Rav Bakshi-Doron’s rebbetzin, Esther, passed away in 2005. They had ten children.

All are asked to daven for Rav Eliyahu ben Tova l’refuah sheleimah.
