“Our tears have already fallen for 4½ years, as we await the release of Yaakov Yosef ben Raizel.

“Our tears will continue to fall until our brother Yaakov Yosef comes home.

We don’t know what is holding up his transfer. We must beg the Ribono Shel Olam  with our tefillos to overturn this gezeirah.

“Join us this Thursday night, July 26th at 8:45 pm for divrei chizuk from Harav Simcha Bunim Cohen, Rav of Khal Ateres Yeshaya of Lakewood, followed by Tehillim.

“To join the conference, call: 212-461-5815, pin 3067#.

“May we be zocheh to see our tefillos answered.”

  1. My kids and I said the whole sefer tehilim (psalms) this Shabbos for Yaakov Yosef. I have taken upon myself to give “kaf zechus” – to judge everyone favorably, to recite the good points of those who I have had difficulties with. Let us storm the doors of Heaven with our prayers and our ahavas chinam – our love for our fellow – and in that merit may the officials in Japan let this boy go.

I want to say to the officials in Japan that our compassion for this boy and his family does not mean that we regard him as a hero. We must learn a lesson from this, as guided by our Rabbis.

  2. The boys were arrested on April 3 2008. Yaakov Yosef was sentenced in May 2011 to 6 years in prison, with 814 days deducted.

Since 814 days is two years and 84 days, Yaakov Yosef must serve 3 years and 281 days, right?

When does the date of this sentence begin? Day of arrest in April 2008? Day of sentencing in May 2011? What about the agreement between Japan and Israel that extradition home (and not to an Israeli prison) can happen 2/3 into the sentence?

What is the last possible date he can be released, and based upon what reckoning?

protocol allows a release into Israeli hands after 2/3 of the sentence is complete, and that was April 2 2012
