Tehillim: Rav Matisyahu Salomon To Undergo Surgery Today

rav-matisyahu-salomonAll are asked to say Tehillim for Rav Matisyahu Salomon, mashgiach of Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, NJ, who has been feeling unwell and will be undergoing surgery this afternoon. The name for Tehillim is Matisyahu Chaim ben Ettil.

Tehillim is being said this morning after Shacharis at all botei medrash of Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, and Tehillim will be recited at the end of first seder today in all the buildings of the yeshiva on its three campuses in the heart of Lakewood.

Rav Salomon, a renowned darshan and mashpiah, was born in Gateshead, England. In his yeshiva and kollel years, he learned for over 15 years with Rav Chaim Kaufman, later founder of the Gateshead Yeshiva L’tzeirim. Rav Salomon also learned for less than a year in Kfar Chassidim under the famed mashgiach, Rav Elya Lopian, the former rosh yeshiva of Etz Chaim Yeshiva, and Rav Elya is viewed as Rav Salomon’s rebbi muvhak.

Rav Salomon served for 30 years as mashgiach ruchani and senior mashgiach of Gateshead Yeshiva, which was initially led by Rav Moshe Schwab. In 1998, Rav Salomon moved to Lakewood and assumed the position of mashgiach at America’s largest yeshiva, Beth Medrash Govoha, following the petirah of Rav Nosson Wachtfogel. Rav Salomon was succeeded in Gateshead by Rav Mordechai Yosef Karnowsky.

Rav Salomon, in addition to having delivered literally thousands of shmuessen all over the globe, has authored a number of popular works, including Matnas Chaim on varying topics such as the Yomim Noraim, moadim, Shaarei Teshuvah, Mesilas Yesharim, Shabbos and Rosh Chodesh. The ArtScroll books With Hearts Full of Love and With Hearts Full of Faith is based on a series of shmuessen from Rav Salomon edited by Rav Yaakov Yosef Reinman.

The mashgiach and his wife, Rebbetzin Miriam, have been supremely devoted to the larger American Olam Hatorah since their arrival on these shores some 13 years ago, making themselves available to one and all for guidance and chizuk.

May the mashgiach have a refuah sheleimah.

  1. Terrible. A yungerman just told me last week that the Mashgiach told him, that he feels sick from all the school acceptance issues.
We always knew that the Mashgiach felt an Achreiyus Klapei Shomayim relating to all the goings on in Lakewood. Hashem Yerachem.

  2. To #1 – you are correct. In fact the Mashgiach even had a chavrusoh with Rav Nosson Zt”l a few times a week. I once heard that they learnt together Toimer Devoirah, but don’t quote me on that. It was Rav Nosson Zt”l though who was very instrumental in bringing Rav Matisyahu to BMG.

  3. A few corrections of fact: The Mashgiach Shlito was born in London; the family moved to Gateshead later. He was a chavrusoh of Rav Chaim Kaufman ztl. He learned under R’ Elya ztl, when the latter was in Kfar Chasidim. R’ Moshe Schwab ztl was the previous Mashgiach of Gateshead, not the Rosh Yeshivah. ay he have a speedy refuoh sheleimoh besoch sheor cholei Yisroel.

  4. The Masgiach Shlita has a “havtocha” from R’Ahron Zatz”al that he will be the mashgiach of Bais Medrash Govoha until moshiach comes. The Mashgiach shli”tah actually said it publicly at a melaveh malkah in monsey for the yeshivah a couple years ago.It was a dream that he had in which R’Ahron promised that to him.

  5. If anyone wants to see a tremendous Kiddush Hashem- the Mashgiach gives a shmuz every monday night that is packed i think over a thousand yeshivaleit come. The Mashgiach should continue to have the koach to carry Klal Yisroel ad bias mashiach.
