Belgian Jewish physicist Francois Englert and his British colleague Peter Higgs won the Nobel Prize for physics on Tuesday for predicting the existence of the Higgs boson particle that explains how elementary matter attained the mass to form stars and planets.
Englert, a Holocaust survivor who is married to an Israeli, has maintained a deep connection with Tel Aviv University for some 30 years.

The irony is that Higgs, who is strongly anti-Israel [and probably anti-Semitic] has boycotted Tel Aviv University, and would probably not appear together in Oslo together with Englert.
Which may be why Higgs has suddenly “disappeared” from public view.
Englert was actually first to publish, by a few weeks, in 1964. His chavrusa (coauthor), Brout, passed away a few years ago, and thus was ineligible. Would be nice if Englert shared prize money with Brout’s family.
