egyptAt least ten people were killed and almost 700 injured Sunday night in scattered clashes between supporters and opponents of President Mohamed Morsi during the mass rallies in Egyptian cities marking the start of an uprising against the Islamist government.

The protesters again rejected Morsi’s appeal for national unity, maintaining his presidency had lost its legitimacy. They called supporters out for a second night of anti-government rallies in town squares today. The Egyptian army continues to stay on guard outside the fray.
