News of an historic deal that freezes key parts of Iran’s nuclear program earned early skepticism from Republican lawmakers, who used social media to share their thoughts.
Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), outspoken on foreign and military affairs, reiterated his concerns about the talks via Twitter:
Moments later, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), the second-ranking Senate Republican, suggested the diplomatic agreement was designed to distract from domestic troubles for President Obama:
10:15 PM – 23 Nov 2013 from Austin, TX, United States
When asked later for further comment, Graham’s spokesman passed along the same sentence featured in the senator’s tweet. Spokespeople for Cornyn didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
