Thank G-d: One-Third Of Americans Don’t Believe In Evolution

godThirty-three percent of Americans believe that “humans and other living things have existed in their present form since the beginning of time” rather than evolving gradually through a process of natural selection, as described by Charles Darwin more than 150 years ago.

And roughly a quarter of adults say that “a supreme being guided the evolution of living things for the purpose of creating humans and other life in the form it exists today.”

The numbers come from a new poll by Pew Research Center released today, which revealed that just six in ten Americans believe “humans and other living things have evolved over time.” The share of the general public that says that humans have evolved over time is about the same as it was in 2009, when Pew Research last asked the question.

  2. Here is what Rav Shimshon Raphoel Hirsch said about evolution:

“Even if this notion were ever to gain complete acceptance by the scientific world, Jewish thought, unlike the reasoning of the high priest of that nation, would nonetheless never summon us to revere a still extant representative of this primal form as the supposed ancestor of us all. Rather, Judaism in that case would call upon its adherents to give even greater reverence than ever before to the one, sole God Who, in His boundless creative wisdom and eternal omnipotence, needed to bring into existence no more than one single, amorphous nucleus, and one single law of “adaptation and heredity” in order to bring forth, from what seemed chaos but was in fact a very definite order, the infinite variety of species we know today, each with its unique characteristics that sets it apart from all other creatures.”(Collected Writings, vol. VII, p. 26)

  3. Those 60% who believe that “humans and other living things have evolved over time” are probably descendants of apes which indeed justifies their belief.

  4. Who else besides Moshe Rabbenu could begin to understand the B’riah process? The divine mechanics? EVERYONE is talking out of their hat. Even the D’as he-Ysod is obscure, because they were astute not to wallow in obscure metaphors. I’d rather see “how many Americans believe in Pew”.

  5. Those of you who don’t believe that evolution is a part of HKB’H methodology of creation, are not only Amoratzim, but you are also Kofrim.
