“Just open up a Chumash and read and you will see that ratzon Hashem is that Jews should live in Eretz Yisroel.” Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach
“Many times have I directed that the religious Jews in the diaspora be instructed that anyone who has the ability to come to Eretz Yisroel and doesn’t, will have to account for his failure in HaOlam Haba.” Rav Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld
So, who here thinks that the Ribbono Shel Olam is pleased with the tefillah of tens-of-thousands of bnei Torah who have, in effect, nullified the mitzvah of Yishuv HaAretz? The American Diaspora-loving Jews filling the canyons of lower Manhattan spurn Eretz HaKodesh every day of their lives that they voluntarily choose to remain in chutz l’Aretz. Hurrah for them? I don’t think so. But, it’s not surprising that Rav Yosef Chaim and Shlomo Zalman lived in Eretz Yisrael. It makes it easier to ignore them in your beloved America.
