rav-dovid-mordechai-schlesingerIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Dovid Mordechai Schlesinger zt”l, a prominent chossid of Karlin Stolin, at the age of 81.

Known to many as the “Masmid of Karlin,” Rav Dovid Mordechai was born in Yerushalayim on 28 Teves 5693 to his parents, Rav Shlomo Zalman and Nechamah Schlesinger.

Rav Dovid Mordechai was a extraordinary masmid, who spent the days of his life immersed in Torah learning. He could be found at any time of the day or night learning in the Bobover Bais Medrash on Rechov Chagi or the Karlin Stoliner Bais Medrash of Rechov Avinoam Yellin in Yerushalayim. Every year, on Simchas Torah, he would make a siyum on the entire Shas, a product of his amazing hasmada and diligence.

Those who knew or watched him describe a man who was never seen wasting time and who was constantly involved in the learning of Torah, always looking in a sefer or discussing words of Torah with others.

The levaya was held Friday afternoon at the Shamgar bais halevayos in Yerushalayim and kevurah took place on Har Hamenuchos.

In his great humility, Rav Dovid Mordechai wrote in his will that his petirah should not be publicized on signs hung in the streets nor announced via ram kol speakers. He lived his life away from the limelight and wished to depart this world in the same way.

Klal Yisroel has lost one of its greatest masmidim.

Yehi zichro boruch.
