shoesDear readers,

I have worked in a shoe store for several years. I feel a bit uncomfortable writing this letter, but I have wished to share this with the public for so long: People’s feet smell. And smell terribly. I understand that it is natural and that this is the way Hashem made us. But I believe that significant improvement in hygiene is called for.

I have to deal with people’s feet every dayand I have no problem with that. But maybe people can pay more attention to grooming themselves properly and making sure that they are pleasant and not repulsive.

From the information I have gathered, even those who shower every single day often neglect to properly clean their feet. They jump into the shower, they quickly lather and clean themselves, and then they jump out and go about their merry way. They generally fail to properly clean their feet. What a mistake.

During the summer especially, our feet tend to smell later in the day. But if we would properly clean them each day, and make sure that we wear clean socks and proper footwear, we would be doing a small part of a bigger task of making sure that we are pleasant tzelem Elokims who other people do not feel uncomfortable being around.

I apologize if I have offended anyone. Thank you for allowing me to share this.

  1. You work in the shoe industry for several years. What have you done to help the Klall ? smelly feet is contributed to lousy footwear. lets see you put your money wear your mouth is. Please get your suppliers to invent a well ventlated dress shoe (sneaker) with pure leather souls, no rubber so the sweat odor can escape. I brush my feet Thoroghuly daily with the best soaps. I wear cotton socks w/o linen to reduce sweat acumilation . But after several hours wearing shoes purchased from your store the smelly feet come rite back.In america we can’t get away with bearfeet.

  2. I am a plumber and unglog peoples smelly toilets. Should I complain too?

Please!!!!! This is what you do for a living. Learn how to deal with it. It’s par for the course.

  3. why are you blaming the shoe industry? maybe if it would be acceptable for men to wear open shoes in the summer to allow for ventilation there would be much less of an issue.

  4. #2 I believe the writer was speaking to people that are not aware of care that your feet need. If you care for your feet that’s great and you may even have a medical issue.

#3 There is nothing you can do about toilets but there is a lot you can do about feet…big difference!!

  5. So now we have the newest issue. —- the smelly foot crisis.
Maybe we should organize some conventions in the mountains over the summer to raise awareness of the issue.
Hay you know how many kids went off the derech because of smelly feet?

  6. And if you keep your feet clean and dry you’re less likely to get athlete’s foot. Men who use the mikveh frequently should pay particular attention to this.

  7. I would not be able to manage without Dr. Scholl’s insoles. Buy them, put them in your shoes, change them when they get worn out or black with sweat. They’re gevaldig.

Once in a while you can spray your shoes with Lysol too. Especially if you’re going to be visiting a shoe store!

  8. I just smelled my feet,

    they smell fabulous!

Shop for shoes in DSW and no one else will have to suffer cause yu get to choose yur own shoes.

  9. feet are not TOILETS.can we flush the dirty feet.IN MY OPINNION ITS A SILLY COMPARISON.
iI suggest the plumber changes vocations to be a shoe salesman.
JEWS ARE OBLIGATED TO BE CLEAN. CHANGE SOCKS DAILY BE CLEAN FOR HASHEM AND OUR WIFES.
FOR OUR SOULS..EVERY PART OFR OUR BODY WAS DIVINLY CREATED AND WE MUST PROTECT IT.

    BUT I AGREE WITH #6.
    THE WORLD IS UPSIDE DOWN
MASHIACH WILL ARRIVE SOON, VERY SOON.

    THANKS

  10. I certainly hope this post is not for real, just a joke, right? Because otherwise it’s ridiculous.
And #1, I hope your spelling is just a joke too, and not for real. It’s scary if it isn’t a joke!

  11. It is part of the job. If the smell of feet bothers you, than why didn’t you go into another line of work? I am a nursing student with the eventual goal of going into medical school. If odors, blood, etc. bothered me, I wouldn’t be going to medicine. It’s part of the job, and at the end of the day, it’s a job.

  12. Oh! I can’t stand smelly feet
Shower a little, please be neat.
Join the crowd and shout it loud
Care for your body, be so proud.
Oh I can’t stand smelly feet!
