chareidimDear Matzav Editor,

As of Friday, I counted at least three articles/letters on Matzav.com condemning “chareidi violence , chareidi extremism, etc”. I did not find even ONE article highlighting the horrible attack against (all) chareidim.

Certainly violence from “our” camp is a terrible thing and must be condemned in strongest terms.

Another thing that MUST happen is that people must be made aware of what is really going in Israel.

Are you aware that there have been many charedim that have been physically and verbally attacked as a direct result of some of the propaganda that has been reported in the media?? Are you aware that there have EVEN been secular people in Israel who have been appalled by the behavior of the media in attacking chareidim and simply for acting “unprofessional as a journalist”?

Well if you are aware than why do I not even see ONE Post to that affect.

I don’t think it a coincidence that all these letters are coming from Americans who don’t really understand what is really going in ISREAL.

I write to you because the Israeli secularist are on an absolute attack against charedim many Israelis buy whatever is being reported, many other “jewish sites” also pass on the Israeli propoganda, I would have expected more from Matzav.

S. Stevens

  1. thank you for sending in this letter! it’s about time we stop focusing on a small group of idiots, and start appreciating the real charaidim! i am sure that lots of people have been waiting for this letter!
ps i would suggest you send this letter to all the other “frum” web sites” (although they probably wont publish it since they have gone so far to the left!)

  2. The reason why you won’t find that kind of thing on chareidi news sites right now is because 1) they either have no idea what is really going on in Eretz Israel, or 2) they don’t want to be labeled as indirectly condoning the extremist behaviors going on right now. You are making a good point but one that no one wants to hear right now because it is either a cop out or it sounds like a conspiracy theory. Oh well

  3. Mr Stevens,
Your concern about attacks against chareidim are justified, however, where is the leadership distancing themselves from these lunatics in Meah Shearim and Beit Shemesh? Why haven’t we heard a loud call that it is unacceptavle to spit at a 7 year old or to curse a soldier on a bus? The seculular Israeli public is waiting for this outcry, but it still hasn’t come. Shteikah K’Hodaah, even the most secualr I sraeli understands.

  4. matzav is indeed from the better sites
it’s funny to criticize this site which at least tries to print the correct things but why are people still visiting sites that dont care about what they print

  5. It is totally true – my son was mugged in Israel, and somebody stole his pocket money (not so little, as he was paying his rent and phone bills). He was quite traumatized and called the copy and instead of being sympathetic and helpful, they were horrible, accusing him of stealing the money originally and all kinds of ludicrous degrading remarks. There was no cause for this except for their hatred of charedim, my son wasn’t disrespectful or chutzpadik – it was just a horrible experience. When he told his Israeli friends, they were shocked that he didn’t know that this was common.

  6. Wrong wrong wrong! Here are the facts: a group of “people” think its ok to spit at an 8 yr ill girl. Period. Nothing else matters at this point. This must be condemned and corrected immediately. Then we can work on the other issues you raise. The condemnation to these vile acts must be forceful and unequivocal. No blaming the victim, no blaming the media, and certainly no dressing up in holocaust garb

  7. I am for various reasons not reading much of the coverage. I will say that there are several issues: there is the need to make clear that this is NOT normative behavior, so no one can come back and say, where was the chareidi condemnation? Even if they’re a minority fringe group because of the publicity they’re getting this is important.

And then another issue is not just saying this is not who we are, but saying who we are! Then it is clear that we do not deserve the opprobrium we’re getting in the broader (and nebach, not so broader) press, etc.

Does this make sense, S. Stevens?

  8. I am a frum yid who lives here in Jerusalem (for about 30 years) and I love the strong stance that Matzav has taken against misbehavior in our own midst. No one expects better of the chilonim, anyway. But criticism of misbehavior in our own midst demonstrates our moral excellence and the dignity of the Torah way a million times more than any cranky remarks about the chilonim ever will.

  9. Hello!!
What do you think you are reading ? A Sefer ?
    This is a website
That provides news without pritzus that is it !
This is not Daas Torah any news website is secular by nature , since the essence of NEWS is secular by nature .
A frum yid should not care about all the stupidity in the world and just be busy with his own life.
For people , myself included, that do want news this is a “kosher” site
But to demand that the right thing should be done is prepostures ,???? ????? ??? ?????? that’s where the right hashkofos are.

  11. If some frum yidden are antagonizing the secularist and we are afraid to protest and condemn their behaviour, then the secularist react this way to all frum yidden.
You cannot blame them for over reacting when
we compare them to Nazis etc.

  12. This may be all true, but just like the fact that Israel is held to higher standards in the media than say, their arab neighbors, if you are going to put yourself out as Chareidi, you are also held to a higher standard. because you claim to uphold a higher standard.

If you don’t want to be held to a higher standard, stop putting down everyone else who doesn’t meet your standards… its quid pro quo

  13. Did the Israeli secularists spit on and harass the 8-year old girl?

If secularists are breaking the law, they too should be arrested and dealt with.

But please don’t forget that people who are supposedly “charedim l’dvar HaShem” are supposed to act better than the secularists. Pointing fingers at the secularists isn’t the solution. Dealing with why nobody said anything about little girls being harassed is far more important.

  14. Maybe part of taking the wind out of the media’s attacks against Chareidim is to dennounce and isolate the modern Sicari from our community. The media onslaught is being driven by according to one bolgger the New Israel fund that is bank rolled by George Soros, who came of age picking over the belongins of jews sent to their deaths by YN’S during WWII.

  15. ??? ??? ?????? ???? ????”? ????”? (demonstration)???? ?????? ????? ??? ???? ???? ?? ????? ??? ??????? ?????? ????? ??????? ?????? ???? ??? ?? ???? ?????

  16. Dear Jack #3,

The FACT is that there HAS been public distancing by the genuine charedi leadership from these vile acts. You probably aren’t aware of it because IT DOESN’T GET THE SAME MEDIA ATTENTION. You want more of it? you want it even clearer? fine no problem- no one is against condemning, no one is making any excuse for violent behavior. I think the point is that there is much more going on BESIDES that, and that needs to be covered as WELL

  17. The chareidi leadership did come out and condemn the spitting. And for your information #15, the secularists have done far worse than spit at an eight year old girl. Violent beatings are far worse than spitting and there’s been plenty of that as a direct result of the frenzied anti-chareidi media. This is a show only for political gain. I know plenty of chareidi kids over the years that have been harrassed by chilonim for absolutely no reason. This whole crazy linking of separate seated busses with the wild sikrikim spitting who have been denounced by many Rabbonim is one manipulative game to oust Netanyahu.

  18. #21, I am shocked. What does secular violence have to do with spitting on an eight year old girl? Nothing at all. Every time I hear the “well, the other side is worse” argument, it makes less sense each time.

If there’s violence on the part of seculars, then involve law enforcement and have the perpetrators arrested. But why bring it up when we’re talking about the eight year old? How is it relevant?

The only linkage that’s relevant is the fact that when people use violence, taunting and force to make other people follow their own chumrahs, it will always end badly and cause a chillul HaShem. That’s why the events are tied together.
