rubashkin2On Friday, September 16, the Eight Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a draconian sentence on Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, a sentence which is essentially a life sentence for him and his wife and 10 children.

We now have a unique opportunity — for the sake of justice — to express our outrage for this sentence and actually make a difference.

The White House today released a new tool to allow people to influence goverment called “We the People.” It is essentially a petition site, and they promise: “If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and an official response will be issued. And we’ll make sure that the petition is sent to the appropriate policy makers in the Administration.” The White House promises an official response to every petition that garners at least 5000 signatures in a span of 30 days.

This is a petition that really matters, so use this as an opportunity to help Sholom Rubashkin.

Tell President Obama to stop ignoring 47 members of Congress and many others in the Rubashkin case.

Sign this petition today and join the fight for justice for Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin.

47 U.S. Congressmen, along with numerous law professors and U.S. Attorneys, have expressed outrage with the way Iowa prosecutors have handled the Rubashkin case from beginning to end. Well they had their turn. Now it’s our time to act.

Our goal is to accumulate tens of thousands of signatures. Yes we can do it!

We have a rare opportunity to let the White House know how disappointed we are that our concerns expressed through our elected officials and many legal scholars have not been taken seriously.

This petition urges President Obama to respond with action to the request of 47 Congressmen and 75 law professors and U.S. Attorneys, including 3 former Deputy Attorneys General — Philip B. Heymann, Charles B. Renfrew and Larry D. Thompson — who have in an unprecedented fashion asked the Department of Justice to initiate an investigation in what they called “allegations of impropriety and unfairness in the Sholom Rubashkin case.”

Every U.S. citizen 13 years or older with a valid email address can sign this petition.

President Obama is facing elections next year, and he wants to know what is on people’s minds. By having thousands of people all across America express their outrage with the overzealousness and misconduct in the case of Sholom Rubashkin, it will send a powerful message that we really do care!

  1. I will be glad to sign.
I will continue to daven for him and his family.

I will NOT call the judges anti-semites.
I will NOT blast the US justice system with charges of anti-semitism.
I especially will NOT curse nor call for the death of any of the judges on a “frum” website of all places. As that would certainly be counterproductive and a monumental chillul H’.

  2. so perhaps now people will realize that we need more liberals because they care about the rights of people in Jail unlike the Republicans who care about law enforcement which is always good and dandy except when it effects Jews.

  3. Hey it doesn’t say anywhere on the registration page (or the linked ‘ Terms of Participation’ page either) anything about needing to be a US citizen – only to supply a zip code, city and state… any reason why ANYONE can’t sign it in that case??

  4. i really think this is a big kidhish hashem. its just amazing to see that every second another jew from around united states adds his name to the list. there nothing like this. i think by tomorrow will hit the 5000 mark

  5. for those who found it confusing, when you go click on the link above to the whitehouse site, you may have to scroll down to see the blue button that says “create an account”.

there are already 2,648 signatures needed. Another 2,352 needed to get a white house response, keep spreading the word!

Worth noting is that it has the second largest number of signatures of any petition created so far. Another couple of thousand signatures and it will be the MOST signed one – certainly leading to it getting noticed.

  6. This is an amazing kiddush Hashem. Signatures are being posted at an amazing rate from Jews allover the country, I saw 30 signatures added in 5 minutes. They are almost at 4,000.

  7. Creating an account is not necessarily a user friendly process. The website is claiming that I already have an account and wants to know if I forgot my password. Not so, I don’t already have an account.

  8. Update on #12 above. I did get an e-mail asking me to click to confirm that my e-mail was legit. After some persistance I was able to create an account and sigh the petetion. Everyone should do the same. The more signatures, the more attention the White House will pay.

  9. What a kiddush Hashem
in just a few hours we reached the goal
Lets keep em going the more we get the louder the message

We should set up more potitions for other issues like the same s.. marriage issue and more….

  10. I just went back into the site to see how many signatures were signed on this petition. And guess what? 5,923 signatures have already been signed for this petition & now it seems like no more are needed. It seems like our goal has been met. So lets hope & daven that this petition will be as the saying goes “the straw that breaks the camels back!!!”

  11. There were so many anti G-d petitions on the list of petitions. So I have initiated a petition to keep ‘under G-d’ in the pledge, yet it needs another 149 votes to be listed on the pledge list. Please sign that petition as well.
