The Truth About Israel’s “Rosa Parks” and Her Provocation

israel-bus-eggedIsraeli anti-religious, leftist media’s newest heroine is Tania Rosenblit, a secular media producer who got on the 451 bus from Ashdod to Yerushalaytim and insisted on sitting behind the driver. A ruckus ensued and police were called in. Rosenblit captured the event on camera and became the media darling, as leftists continued a seemingly well-concerted campaign against the Jewish religion’s belief in modesty and separation between men and women.

She is being touted as an Israeli Rosa Parks, who stood up to chareidi gender segregation, like the original Parks stood up to racial segregation.

In buses like the 451 that serve the charedi community, men and women sit separately, with the men seated in the front. Some find the enforcement of the separation to be unacceptably strict, as even married men and women are prevented from sitting together.
Many also agree with Chief Rabbi Jonathan Metzger that public bus systems should not allow one group to make rules that are not in consensus, but a private bus line can do as it pleases.

The Kikar HaShabbat websitequoted eyewitnesses to the incident as saying that Rosenblit deliberately provoked the brouhaha. “She got on the bus at Hana Senesh Street, listened to songs and even hummed, but no one talked to her,” said one of them, who remained anonymous. But then, he said, she touched someone who passed in the aisle with her elbow.

He asked her to sit in the back, as is common in these bus lines. When she refused, he remained standing near the door, according to Kikar HaShabat. Another chareidi man turned to her and requested: “Maybe you can respect us? I ask you as one Jew to another.”
According to this version of events, five passengers got off the bus and many others refused to get on it because of Rosenblit.

The driver refused to intervene, and said that he was not allowed to. Police were called in. The policeman “was very polite and tried to talk to her,” said a witness, “but she shouted in the bus and said she would sing out loud, threatened that she would take off her clothes and even started to touch the buttons of her blouse.”

According to Kikar HaShabat, Rosenblit denied the accusations and said: “This is a vile lie, I did not touch anyone. Perhaps in a moment of anger I said some things that I should not have said.”

The attacks on chareidi gender segregation follow directly in the heels of an ongoing media storm regarding religious soldiers’ right not to watch women performing on stage for entertainment. Leading rabbis have threatened that forcing religious soldiers to watch women’s performances flies in the face of Jewish law and could cause religious men to stop enlisting to the IDF.

Boy are the secular jealous of the beautiful lives chareidim are leading; they heed the Torah G-d gave the Jews at Har Sinai without any comprise; their schools have no violence and students respect their teachers; children respect parents and grandparents; they have the least crime in Israel. In short, chareidim ought to thank G-d for being from the most righteous Jews in the Jewish world.

  3. The anti-religion force, the Satan, is so, so powerful that even rational people lose their focus!
#1, Mr. Daas Torah, perhaps you also go by the alias of Dayos Kozvose too, I’m not sure; why is it so hard to accept the Ole Torah or at least respect those who wish to? This version of the story ought alter your view somewhat! We’re not a band of bandits! It’s erev Chanuka, the Yom Tov of Rabim b’yad me’aatim. If it’s for kedushas HaShem, why be so vile and fight it? Think a bit!
    Gut Yhom Tov to all!

  4. The only solution since the Ministry of Transportation does not permit the chareidim to have their own private buses which is wrong and discriminatory would be, is for the chareidim to start their own buses for free which will be sponsored by chareidim worldwide. On these buses, since they’re private, they will be able to pick up only those passengers they want which of course will be all those who adhere to their guidelines. These buses will run the route they want. Being that the Jerusalem and Bnei Brak and Ashdod routes are the busiest bus routes in Israel, wait and see how fast Egged will come running to them and agree to the guidelines of chareidim – just as fast as they ran to the chareidim before they started the 402 Jerusalem/Bnei Brak buses.

  5. This is the “truth”? Why is that Matzav? Because you choose to believe only the chareidi version? (which by the way doesnt change anything)

Why cant any of you defenders get it straight, that it is ILLEGAL to enforce gender segregation on a bus in Israel! Dont like it? Then ride the taxi.

She has the right to sit wherever she wants – and the fault for the entire ruckus lies SOLELY on those that approached her.

  6. that’s the old stuff “forcing one’s way on another” what right did he have to hold up the bus for 30 min. u don’t like it GET OFF THE BUS!

  7. this is not oisgehalten way to do things . The people who are busy with these things i dont believe are the heiligeh erezt yisroeldige yidden that we know its bored people who keep themself busy with things they think look like important issues

  8. I think we should all chip in and send her to a vacation in Syria or Saudi Arabia where she might decide to fight for women’s rights there!

  9. Hatred based on ignorance, is the crux problem.

The hypocrisy of the Tzionim is epic.

Don’t you dare request separate seating on public busses, but if you form your private bus line, you will be fined and threatened with jail for infringing on the Egged monopoly.

Case in point, I personally met a young Israeli man in NYC collecting funds, I knew this man to have a successful business in Jerusalem, and so I asked him what happened? Why do you need to beg?
His story is astounding! He owned an apartment in Jerusalem so he decided to sell the apartment and move to Beis Shemesh, where the apartments are much cheaper, and with the money left over he would expand his business.
Being that his business was in Jerusalem he had to travel every day & he didn’t want to go with the Egged mixed seating bus, NO he did not riot, he did not threaten any one.

He and 6 others decided to form a private bus route to Jerusalem, well hell broke loose, they were criminally charged & heavily fined (150,000 shekel) for the terrible crime of creating a separate seating bus, competing with Egged.

‘she is a rasha gamur indicitive of secular(ist) israeli sciety in general.’

The [silent] majority support the charedim when the media is away(not often),and it’s explained so they could comprehend.

    #14 wow.In a nutshell

  11. #8 and all the other anti Torah:
Why don’t you read #14’s comment and think about it. Israel being a democratic country (you would think) but really not so…
Since everyone has a right to live their life as seen fit, why can’t they establish a Kosher bus route with Mehadrin buses???Oh yes…they tried…were stopped, fined…
I’ve read it all. When you open your eyes and see what the secular Israelis are really after you will take a step back and open your eyes, now you still want to be blind to their agenda.Well, if it truly is a democratic country, then we are allowed to run our own Private buses, if we choose, and don’t need to be threatened or manipulated by Egged, or anyone for that matter. But try as we may, we have yet to be successful against a banda reshuim who want nothing more than to stir trouble in order to call the Chareidim on it!.
Don’t condemn before you know the story. Don’t trust reporters or reporting. They twist their stories to serve “their” purposes. And their purpose is to put the Chareidi in a BAD LIGHT, anytime they have an opportunity to do so. Get with it….grow up..they don’t love us all that much…and neither do you.The woman that came on the bus came for one purpose, to stir up the situation…she had an agenda…and obviously won…here we are…talking about it…getting clobbered for wanting to do what we feel is the right thing. No one is interested in forcing their beliefs on anyone. But if you don’t allow us to do what we have a right to do, you are tampering with what is legally and religiously our right. So now what????

  12. Jewish law doesn’t require separate seating. Imagine what would happen if people would prevent a female passenger riding a NYC subway route.
Personally, I like sitting with my wife on a bus. We sat (actually, stood) in the middle of the bus and I verbalized my outrage at the audacity of those who want to impose their views on others. The law allows a passenger to sit anywhere he or she wants. End of discussion.
