A winter storm that dumped around 2 feet of snow on Kentucky left thousands of motorists stranded on highways Thursday, some for up to 24 hours. The traffic jam on Interstate 65 stretched for about 26 miles, from Elizabethtown to Sheperdsville. Another jam, on I-24, left more than 400 vehicles stuck.
The Kentucky National Guard was deployed to help with relief efforts and with evacuating drivers to local shelters.
Rev. Jesse Jackson’s wife and members of his Rainbow/PUSH Coalition staff were among those stranded. They were on their way to Selma, Alabama, for the 50th anniversary of the civil-rights march. Read more at ABC News.
