france-shooting-levaya-small[Videos and photos below.] Rav Yonatan Sandler and three children gunned down at a Jewish school in France were buried today in Yerushalayim, with a bereaved mother crying to her slain loved ones to “come back home.”

The four were killed Monday in the French city of Toulouse when a man on a motorcycle opened fire with two handguns outside the school. Hundreds of French police descended on the suspect’s hideout in Toulouse on Wednesday, but by midday still hadn’t drawn him out after hours of gunbattles and negotiations.

The bodies of Rabbi Sandler, his sons Ariel, 5, and Gavriel, 3, and 8-year-old Miriam Monsenego were flown to Eretz Yisroel early today. The families had asked for kevurah in Israel; the children held dual Israeli-French citizenship and Rabbi Sandler had lived in Israel for years.

At the levaya, Miriam’s eldest brother, Avishai, in his 20s, called to the Ribono Shel Olam to give his parents the strength “to endure the worst nisayon that can be endured.”

In the name of the four remaining Monsenego children, he urged his father and mother to “keep going, keep going, keep going.”

After the kevurah, Eva Sandler, wife of Reb Yonatan, walked to the freshly covered kevorim of her sons and husband and laid her hands on them.

“Come back home,” she cried out in French.

Israeli media reported that Eva Sandler is pregnant and had arrived in Israel with her remaining child, a toddler.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Yerushalayim cemetery, including grieving relatives who arrived from France, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe and leaders of the French Jewish community.

In his hesped, Israeli parliament speaker Reuven Rivlin said the Jewish people “once again find themselves facing beasts … driven out their minds by hatred.”

Juppe said “an attack on a Jew in France is not only an issue for French Jews. … anti-Semitism is against all French values.”

The school attack was the bloodiest France has ever known and the bloodiest assault on Jewish targets there in decades.

  1. This is what we get for letting the ARAB time bomb (Arab population growth) immigrate into all the worlds nations. Sending them back to where they came from & feeding them the oil they export is our only solution.

  2. HASHEM, THESE ARE YOUR YIDDEN. AD MOSSAI.
THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE SAID THAT WE DIDNT SAY IT ENOUGH, SO AD MOSSAI, AD MOSSAI, AD MOSSAI.
    LOOK AT THESE PRECIOUS YIDDEN.
What are we waiting for? These last moments we are still here without geula we must have ahavas yisroel, do chessed.
add mitzvos. Instead of wasting money, buy yourselves a few items for Pesach, shabbos, but if you got on sale, use the money you saved and give to a good cause. If someone gave you some toys from their children to yours, put a few extra dollars in the pushka of your choice, for having saved money. Call someone who might be happy to hear from you. Turn the other way if someone is insensitive to you, and instead, be kind and thoughtful to someone else. We must

  3. My husband and I just took our children to the Haulocost memorial in Washington D.C. We purchased our 6 yer old daughter and our 12 year old son rocks etched with the words “remember” in Hebrew. How Disney as if there ever really was such a universally accepted ending filled with justice and change. We should not teach our children to “remember” because this horror has never truly stopped. We much teach our children that genocide is as close to us as the difference between a whisper of our heritage instead of a shout out to the world of our existence and strength. Only then will the world stay within humane boundaries. How sad that we must teach our children such a lesson. Israel stands as a beacon for all the world. The rest of us “blend” into society and lead our lives within a diluted combination of assimilation and microscopic minimalism of patronage to our Jewish culture and religious rights. How ashamed I feel right now. How humbled and ashamed. My heart and sould goes out to the families of those lost in France. Your pain cannot be imagined and your strength can only be revered.
