visiting-dayThousands of families are heading to the Catskills today for the first visiting day of summer 2011. All drivers are urged to leave ample time for traveling. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted speed limits, as State Police troopers are on patrol on the highways. The troopers sit with their radar guns, and drivers who do not follow the reduced speed-limits in certain zones will be ticketed.

Matzav.com would like to remind its readers to help Catskills Hatzalah, which needs our help to continue its lifesaving work. Checks can be made payable to Catskills Hatzalah and mailed to POB 50, Monticello, NY 12701.

Also, the Catskills Hatzalah GPS Project is available for the general public. There is no charge for the use of these files. The goal of this project has been to allow those who respond to medical emergencies in the Catskills to utilize GPS to save time and get there safely. For more info, click here.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable visiting day.

  1. Drivers are “encouraged” to follow posted speed limits? Perhaps “urged” is better wording.

Please please please be careful out there…

  2. No tips from me this year! It’s time we fight back! It’s the Camp’s achrayus to pay their staff! Camp’s are not in the chesed business! They are there to make money, lots of money! This idea of making parents feel guilty with this hakaras hatov stuff aint gona work anymore! These money machine camps will have to start taking responsibility for paying their employee’s! Enough is enough! We pay more than enough tuition, from the transportation fraud fee to the insurance fraud fee, to everything in between!

  3. Although I think that staff should be appreciated,I still agree with you 100%.Camp is one big money maker and it is discusting how they charge more every year even though peoples wallets are getting emptier.Do not worry,I predict that in 5 years, half of the camps are going to close down.

  4. We live in a time where so many are stuggling financially yet camp for children is a necessity not just a luxury (our Mechanchim are telling this to us). There are still camps out there with the Chutzpah to charge camp fees to staff members claiming there is a cost for room and board. If I work for you I should not have to pay you for the chance to work for you. Please dont tell me that nobody is forcing me to send my kid as a staff member. This is Gezayla Mamash. There is no other industry or job where a person has to pay his employer in order to work there.

  5. #5:
Two people are going to suffer- your children and their staff members.
The camp policy is such and has been that way for years. If you don’t like it, then send to Sternberg or Magen Avrohom, who are federation camps. But don’t send to a camp that has such a policy and then not follow it!
Why should the staff suffer for your shitos?

  6. I take it, palm sunday, that you definitely do not have any teens WORKING for a camp, that expect a token. wait, my dear, wait, till you see a different color to the grass.
