Thousands Head to the Catskills for Visiting Day

Thousands of families will be heading to the Catskills today for the first visiting day of summer 2009. All drivers are urged to leave ample time for traveling and to be aware of the temporary traffic patterns currently on Route 17, which may cause heavy delays. For the duration of the summer, motorists will encounter delays while driving to and from the Catskills on the weekends as work is performed between exits 118 and 122 in both directions. While traveling from the Catskills, motorists will encounter a one-lane construction pattern for a few miles.

Drivers are also encouraged to follow posted speed limits, as State Police troopers will be on patrol in and around construction zones and elsewhere on the highways. The troopers will be sitting with their radar guns, and drivers who do not follow the reduced speed-limits in certain zones will be ticketed.

The Shabbos was designated by rabbonim for appeals on behalf of Catskills Hatzalah which needs our help to continue its lifesaving work. Also, the Catskills Hatzalah GPS Project is now complete and available for the general public.

There is no charge for the use of these files. The goal of this project has been to allow those who respond to medical emergencies in the Catskills to utilize GPS to save time and get there safely. For more info, click here.
