public-schoolMore than 100,000 New York City schoolkids won’t have class Monday, and a third as many might skip school until Wednesday.

But the worst news may be that 45 schools damaged by Hurricane Sandy may be out of commission until the end of the year, teachers-union president Michael Mulgrew said.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said yesterday that eight schools would remain closed to students for use as housing for residents rendered homeless by the monster storm. Students from 57 “severely damaged” schools were told to report to alternate locations Wednesday. Read more here.
