rav-henach-leibowitz1Rav Henach Leibowitz zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim in Queens, passed away a little more than two years ago. To create a living symbol of the rosh yeshiva‘s memory and legacy, the yeshiva has engaged in a National Sefer Torah writing campaign. This Sefer Torah has been traveling to communities across the globe, and to Jews from all walks of life, including many gedolim and rabbonim, who have inscribed letters in it.

The completion of the Sefer Torah and hachnosas Sefer Torah will take place today. The program was scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with kesivas osiyos to be held at Khal Nachlas Yitzchok, Rav Noach Isaac Oelbaum’s shul, located at 141-39 73rd Avenue in Kew Garden Hills. At about 11:15 a.m., the Sefer Torah will be brought outside the shul where the last few letters will be completed.

Rav Oelbaum and the Novominsker Rebbe, Rav Yaakov Perlow, will address the gathering, which will be followed by the grand procession to Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim, located at 7601 147th Street. A Sefer Torah truck and live music will accompany the parade and the dancing will continue into the main bais medrash.

The roshei yeshiva of Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim, Rav Dovid Harris and Rav Akiva Grunblatt, will address the gathering after the new Sefer Torah is placed in the aron kodesh.

  1. Where is the VIDEO AND PHOTOS? Those of us not in the Queens area want to particpate via internet.

An amazing THANKS to Rebs Eliezer Grunberg and Gifter on a job well done. Tremendous dedication to the yeshiva and the Rosh Yeshiva … we are indebted to you for eternity.

  2. R’ Eleiezer Gruenberg follows in the footsteps of his father Rav Mordechai shlit”a in his devotion to the yeshiva and to continuing the great legacy of the Rosh Yeshiva zt”l and of the Chofetz chaim derech.
