flicker_1003917Rav Shabsai Sheftl Horowitz II (1590-1660). The son of the Shelah Hakodesh, Reb Shabsai studied under his father and under Rav Shlomo Ephraim Lunshitz. After his father left for Eretz Yisrael, he became dayan of Prague. He then became Rav of Fuerth, then Frankfurt am Main, then Posen, where he founded a yeshiva. In 1654, he was appointed Rav of Vienna. In 1649, he published his father’s work, Shnei Luchos HaBris, along with his own extensive introduction, Vavei HaAmudim.

Rav Yichiyeh ben Yosef Tzalach, the Maharitz, founder of the Baladi community of Yemen (1713-1805). He is described as “without question,….the greatest rabbi and exponent of Jewish law ever to have been produced by Yemen.” By 1795, he served on the Beis Din of Sanaa.

Rav Yehoshua of Ostrova, son of Rav Shlomo Leib of Lentcha, and author of Toldos Adam (1819-1873).

Rav Yosef Yozke Rosenberg of Zalkava, author of Yad Yosef (on the first three perakim of Bava Metzia) and Revid Hazahav (1905).

Rav Yehoshua Pinchas Bombach of Ushpetzin (1921). [note: according to a frequently told story of the brothers Reb Elimelech and Reb Zusia, this city would later be called Auschwitz.

Rav Yissacher Leib Weinberg of Slonim (1928).

Rav Shem Klingberg , the Zaloshytzer rebbe of Krakow (1943).

Rav Aharon Hakohen Rosenfeld, the Pinsk-Karlin Rebbe (1927-2001). For many years, he served as a maggid shiur in the Eitz Chaim yeshiva, and then in the Belz yeshiva in Eretz Yisrael and Belgium. When he was only thirty his wife was niftar, leaving him with five small children. He later married the widow of Rav Chaim Halberstam, who raised the orphans and brought them to marriage. On Pesach 1991, at the yahrtzeit of his grandfather, Rav Aharon of Karlin, he was appointed Admor of Pinsk-Karlin.

Rav Yissochor Dov (ben Shaul) Rubin, author of Tallelei Oros (1962-2008). After learning at Yeshiva L’tze’irim Ruzhin in Bnei Brak, he joined the Ponevezh Yeshiva and later continued his studies in the Kollel Avreichim of Yeshivas Ponevezh. He was hired as a maggid shiur in Yeshiva Karlin Stolin L’tze’irim and later as mashgiach in Yeshivas Beis Chilkiya. In 1988, he began writing his divrei Torah on the parsha which was printed weekly in Yated Neeman. Thus began the seeds for his sefer, Tallelei Oros on the Parsha. Thereafter came volumes on Sukkos, Pesach, Purim, Tisha B’av, and the Yomim Noraim. In the last few years, Rav Yissochor Dov invested much effort in publishing the Tallelei Oros on tefilla-prayer. He produced five volumes. In addition the these seforim, Rav Yissochor Dov also published Sefer Oros HaGra, as well as the popular version of Sefer Nefesh Hachaim with his elucidations, footnotes, and references. He also (anonymously)printed two volumes of Sefas Emes al Hatefilla.

· An Arab attack on Petach Tikva was repelled by the Jewish settlers, 1936.
· Jews from Eretz Yisrael bound for Malta died when their ship was sunk by a German plane, 1943.
· U.S.forces liberated Buchenwald with its 20,000 inmates, 1945.
· Widespread Russian pogroms started in Elisabethgrad, 1881.
· Anti-Jewish riots broke out in Vilna, Poland, 1938.

  2. r shem was murdered in Plashow camp in Crackow THE OTHER REBBE OF ZALOICYZE WHOSE NAME WAS EPSTIEN WAS THE FATHER IN LAW of Rabbi Bmbach of Osweischim pronouced Ushpitzin in yiddish and Auschwitz in German the story with many rebbes was that they visited auschwitz and said it was a place destined for punishment rabbi Epstein was a brother in law of the rebbe of Muncatch and the rebbe of Radzymin.
