andrew-cuomoThe annual dinner of Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services will be held this evening at the New York Hilton. The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., following by the dinner at 6:30 p.m. The event will celebrate the agency’s milestone 40th year anniversary.

For four decades, Ohel has elevated the lives of thousands of individuals and families with a compassionate vision, unwavering dedication and impeccable professionalism.

The Hon. Andrew Cuomo, Attorney General of New York State, will be the keynote speaker at the dinner. The Hon. Sheldon Silver is to be honorary chairman. Over 1,300 people are expected to attend this year’s dinner.

The Guests of Honor this year are Gloria and Harvey Kaylie. The other honorees are A.J. and Leah Schreiber with the Community Leadership Award; Hy Hetherington, CEO of Superior Glacier and HLP, with the Corporate Man of the Year Award; the Bert Fried and Leon Hofman families with the Community Partnership Award in Mental Health; and Rachel and Jona Rechnitz, with the Young Leadership Award.

A matching gift program will again be instituted this year in conjunction with the annual dinner. An anonymous donor will contribute $1 for every $2 contributed to the Mel and Phyllis Zachter Ohel Endowment Fund up to $500,000.

This year’s dinner co-chairs are Saul N. Friedman and Chaim Kaminetzky. They are joined by Joey Bodner, Efroim Fasten, Zvi Gurevich, Elly Kleinman, Russel Lake, Chaim Marcovici, Dr. Stephen Rosenfeld, MD FACC, Bennett Schachter and Y. David Scharf, Esq. The journal chairpersons are Miriam Lubling, Jay Kestenbaum, Martin Hofman, Daniel Lifschutz and Dr. Dov Zeidman. Moishe Hellman serves as president of Ohel Bais Ezra, and Ronny Hersh is president of the Rose and Maurice Halpern Lifetime Care Foundation for the Jewish Disabled.

The annual dinner is Ohel’s most important fundraising event of the year, securing essential funds to support Ohel’s operational budget.

Moishe Hellman, president of Ohel, says, “Many key services and programs provided by Ohel are not covered by government programs. The special personalized care Ohel provides to every client places a significant financial burden on the agency and makes the dollars raised for operational support through the annual dinner all the more critical.”
