michael-levineTonight, Motzoei Taanis Esther, an asifa will be held in Lakewood at Bais Faiga Hall for Yaakov Yosef ben Raizel and Yoel Zev ben Mirel Risa Chava, the two boys currently jailed in Japan. The ateres tefillah is being held ahead of the dates of the closing arguments for both boys, March 28 for Yaakov Yosef and April 5 for Yoel Zev. The verdicts are expected to be handed down 5-7 weeks later.

The event, which will feature the participation of rabbonim and roshei yeshiva of Lakewood, will begin at 9:45 p.m.

Divrei chizuk will be delivered by Rav Aryeh Malkiel Kotler, rosh yeshiva of Bais Medrash Govoah.

A firsthand report from Japan will be delivered by Rabbi Aba Dunner, Executive Director of the Conference of European Rabbis. Rabbi Dunner has personally visited the boys in jail and plays an active role in seeking the funding needed for the boys’ defense. The effort to help the boys continues to be led by Dayan Chaim Yosef Dovid Weis, Rabbi Aron Nezri and Rabbi Meilech Bindinger.

A special guest speaker at the event will be Mr. Michael Levine, a forty-year veteran of the US Drug Enforcement Agency, including undercover law enforcement positions at JFK and Miami International Airports. As Mr. Levine told the Yated in an exclusive interview earlier this year, he testified on behalf of the boys in Japan, stating that their behavior was typical of blind mules, innocent and unwitting drug couriers.

A video presentation at the event will provide a unique glimpse into the case.

The defense team is now preparing its closing arguments, but there are outstanding invoices from the lawyers since September 2010. There is an urgent need to immediately satisfy all outstanding debts and assure the defense attorneys that they will be promptly paid.

For the past three years there have been appeals all over the world to say Tehillim and raise money for the three bochurim incarcerated in Japan. Rabbanim worldwide have been involved. Where have you been when klal Yisrael united in a case of pidyon shevuim?
    Have you heard of Rubashkin?
When our fellow Jews are in trouble, we need to be alert, and help out. If you slept through it, you’re living in your own selfish world.
