Tragedy struck Boro Park, Brooklyn, this morning when an early morning blaze claimed the lives of two residents.

According to police, FDNY responded to a fire at a single-family home on 44th Street, between 12th Avenue and Fort Hamilton Parkway, in Boro Park shortly before 4 a.m. The blaze had been burning for some time before the firefighters arrived.

The conflagration claimed the lives of R’ Chaim Elazar Shalom, 61, and Faigy Gluck, 59, who were in a second-floor bedroom.

“There was a large body of fire when our unit first came in on the first floor and the second floor going up the stairwell and the interior stairs,” FDNY Deputy Chief Russ Regan told CBS NY. “It was a very fast-moving fire.”

The Glucks’ 17-year-old daughter, Chana, was rescued after being found on a fire escape. Her parents were taken to the hospital, where they passed away.

The levaya of Rabbi and Mrs. Gluck will take place this at Shomrei Hadas Chapels, located at 3803 14th Avenue in Boro Park, at 2:30 this afternoon.

  1. It’s so strange since the fire department station is right around the corner. Strange that it too long for them to arrive!

    • It was 4am not to many people in the street at that time. The fire chief said by the time FDNY was called the house was burning for some time..

    • Yes indeed. around the corner. It’s time we have our own fire department like hatzlozla. Yidden stop depending on goyinm to fight your fires!! Let’s orgize raise funds get volunteers and computers we can prevent this avla of happening again.

  2. It seems like it took 2 minutes according to radio records.

0348 – Brooklyn – Phone Alarm – Report of a fire in the backyard of a private house.

    0350 – E-282 – 10-75, 2 1/2 story PD.

  3. It was 4am not to many people in the street then. The fire chief said by the time they were called the house was burning already for some time.

  4. Basic reading comprehension, please. It doesn’t say it took the fire department a long time to arrive after being called. Rather, it says that the fire had been burning for a while before the fire department arrived. Failure to understand what you’re reading is a result of inadequate education.

  5. we need to have ultra orthodox jewish fire fighters to respond to a local fire in boro park just like hatzulah of boro park we all can save lives if you see something say something how long does it take from 43st 12ave fire station one block to 44st where the house fire took place we should have our own fire station just like they have in monroe ny how did this fire start does anyone know

  6. Hey Lessor dear,
I didn’t place “fault” at the doorstep of the FDNY. They’re super great and truly New York’s bravest. Perhaps I should have used the word “ironic”! It’s just adds a little dimension to the sadness of the tragic event! To think that the fire department is at your doorstep and this could happen: ה’ ישמר.
It’s so sad! Two upstanding, wonderful people to lose their lives, רחמנא ליצלן, in such a gruesome manner.
    אוי רבונו של עולם

    Thanks for your point!
