Tragedy in the Catskills: 5-Year-Old Dovi Levitan a”h

candle-small6It is with great sadness that we report the passing of 5-year-old Dovi Levitan a”h, who was tragically killed after being hit by a truck earlier this evening on Old Falls Road outside of Camp Morris in Woodridge, NY. Dovi was a son of R’ Shmuli and Mrs. Chumie Levitan of Lakewood, NJ. R’ Shmuli is a son of Rav Chaim Zev and Mrs. Rochel Levitan of Monsey, NY, rov of Khal Bais Yosef Meir on Olympia Lane in Monsey. Mrs. Chumie Levitan is a daughter of Rav Moshe and Mrs. Miriam Scheinerman, rov of Kehillas V’Kollel Bnei Hayeshivos of Flatbush.

The levaya will held tomorrow at Khal Bais Yosef Meir, located at 19 Olympia Lane in Monsey.

May the family have a nechama and may we know of no further tzaar.

Umacha Hashem dimah me’al kol ponim.

  1. Rabbi Scheinerman and his choshuveh rebetzen should be consoled. special special people. i am sure their children are special too and i am sure this was a special kid. what is there to say? you should no more pain.

  2. It happened underneath the bridge by Wortzman Road outside the camp. i drove by and saw hatzolah but didn’t know what was going on till i heard about the petirah.

  3. Ribono Shel Olam, what should we do? how do we get out of this miserable golus with these awful tragedies? we know we’re not perfect, but look at all the wonderful things about am yisroel! look at the torah! look at the chesed! look at the bitachon! look at the emunah! look at the mesiras nefesh! look at the bein adam lachaveiro! don’t let the SDoton be makatreig on us. Don’t let him harp on the negitive. let’s look at the positive. please take us out of this golus. stop these terrible besuros. Please. Ich betdir Ribono Shel Olam. Ki atah shomeiyah tefillos.
May Hashem bring us the geulah k’karov.

  4. This is a great tragedy, and my heart goes out to the family.
Perhaps this is a reminder from Hakadosh Baruch Hu about the seriousness of the month of Av. we need achdus, we need zechusim, we need yeshuos.
    Baruch Dayan Ha’emes.

  5. Hashem Yirachaim!
we all know the families… its too terrible to even comprehend… such a wonderful family and such a sweet boy!
I know there is no possible nechama in the natural world… Hashem should send a nais and be menachaim this incredible family…

  6. Baruch Dayan HaEmes. We must strengthen ourselves in the learning of Torah, Halacha, Mussar….

Tragedies have a way of uniting people…

If we united beforehand, perhaps we wouldn’t need such Tzaros to unite us!

All Yidden are Hashem’s children. Let’s focus on seeing the positive in each other and stop being at each others throats for every little disagreement.

Umacha hashem Dima M’Al Kol panim!

  7. I remember when R’ Shmuli Levitan got engaged to Rabbi Scheinerman’s daughter, I was in Rabbi Scheinerman’s Yeshiva at the time, and we had a nice kumzitz that night. May the Rav and Rebbetzen as well as the Levitans and the entire family have a true nechama!!

  8. Dear Matzav editors,

Perhaps the Torah posts should be given the same status as the news, happenings and tragedies instead of being hidden where nobody remembers to look at them.

Perhaps this will facilitate more Torah learning and minimize the tragedies.

Just a thought (my 2 cents)

  9. The accident happened right under the perdestrian overpass which was built to avoid this kind of tragedy. Why was it not used?

  10. I almost hit a child the other day because his parents were both busy on their cell phones and not watching as their child wander out into the road.

  11. R’ Shmully Shlit’a is one of the most special people i know. And my family davens in R’ Scheinerman Shlitas shul. More caring, devoted, down-to-earth, learned, happy, parents and grandparents are hard to come by! May Hkb’h give them the strength they need in this most difficult time & may Klal yisroel know no more of such Tzaros.

  12. Baruch Dayan Emes. It’s a terrible tragedy, and may the family have a Nechama. However, finding out exactly what happened, without putting the blame onto anyone, may be a good idea, so that IY”H a similar situation can be prevented in the future.

  13. as previous neighbors of the parents and niftar, the parents are special, caring and loving parents. A five year old can run out from anywhere even between two cars in the city ,even though all parents warn their children evrey single daynot to run in the street. There is only one rational answer to all the questions ,This is rotzon hashem and that is all there is to it. May the niftar be a meilets yosher for all klal yisroel and ask hashem for mashiach to come swiftlry and hashem should be misnachem his parents, zeidas, bubbies, uncles, ants, siblings, cousins , freinds who are presently in shock of the great loss of this little precious neshamela.

  14. the way to get out of this golus is 1)to show Hashem that we want to- Hashem is waiting for the day to bring us back his Shechina (Presence) & his Bais Hamikdosh but we just dont seem to be ready. are we really grieving over the bais Hamikdosh on Tisha B’av? or are we just living a life of Luxury with everything Hashem Gave & continues to give us planes. computers, cars etc…
2)everyday Hashem says to the Malachim look how happy my children are down on earth. i gave them everything. let me leave my Bais Hamikdosh up in heaven when they cry out for it i will give it back to them.

  15. Ben Torah (comment no. 7) aksed: “how do we get out of this miserable golus with these awful tragedies?”

You know what? Maybe that’s the problem. We don’t think this golus is miserable at all! In fact, we love being in our goldena medina: living in our Lakewood/Boro Park/Flatbush/Five Towns McMansions; driving our Lexuses and Infinitis; spending thousands on Bar-Mitzvahs and weddings; traveling on extravagant Glatt-Kosher vacations, ad nauseum.

The real Ba’alei Emunah are boarding their Nefesh B’ Nefesh aliyah flights and PROVING that they really WANT the final geula — not just by hollow words, but by DEED. The rest of us will continue shmoozing through chazaras ha’shatz and having a good time in our beloved U.S. of A. G-d help us.

  16. I’m sorry to burst the bubble of 29, but Nefesh B’Nefesh flights- although they are nice, they don’t bring Moshiach any closer.

You can’t force the geula to come and even if you uproot all the Jews from across the world to settle there, Moshiach won’t be hastened if we don’t do what Hashem wants of us- which is teshuva and maasim tovim
