aaron-tepferIt is with great sadness that we report the petirah of Aaron Shalom Tepfer z”l, who passed away on Shabbos at the age of 10.

Aaron had been swimming in the waters off the Cedarhurst Yacht Club at Daniel Cox Road Friday afternoon when one of his legs came into contact with a boat’s propeller. Aaron was rushed to the hospital after paramedics on boats and jet skis rushed to try and save him. The incident occurred in a stretch of water known as Reynolds Channel. Aaron was struck by the propeller of a boat that had been towing him on an inflatable tube as he was tubing.

Rescuers from Long Beach Volunteer Fire Department were training just a short distance away and were one of the five agencies that raced to the scene.

The incident caused a severe laceration to his leg and he had to be extricated from the propeller. He was later stabilized and rushed to Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Despite valiant efforts by doctors, Aaron was niftar, leaving his community and the greater Torah world stunned from grief.

Aaron, a student at Yeshiva Darchei Torah in Far Rockaway, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Tully and Rochel Tepfer. Mrs. Tepfer is an elementary school teacher at Darchei Torah.

The levaya is currently being held in the Diamond Bais Medrash of the yeshiva, located at 257 Beach 17th Street in Far Rockaway.

Shivah will take place at the Tepfer home, located at 376 Rugby Road in Cedarhurst, NY. Shacharis is at 7:30 a.m., and Minchah and Maariv are at 7:20 p.m. The family requests that no visitors come after 10 p.m.

Mrs. Zahava Farbman, LMSW, Associate Director of Chai Lifeline’s Crisis Intervention, Trauma and Bereavement Department, will present to parents on helping children cope with this tragedy. The event is open to all parents who would like to attend at 9 p.m. in the Diamond Bais Medrash of Darchei Torah.

Umachah Hashem dimah mei’al kol ponim.
