[Levayah info below.] Tragedy struck the Lakewood, NJ, community today, as a young mother, Mrs. Leah Eisdorfer a”h, was killed in a tragic vehicular accident this morning. She was 28.
Shortly after 11 a.m., Mrs. Eisdorfer was driving a minivan near the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and North Maple Avenue, south of Route 70, in Toms River, NJ, when she lost control of her vehicle. Driving south on New Hampshire, the vehicle crossed into the northern lanes of traffic, veering off the road and crashing through several trees before landing in a detention basin.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Mrs. Eisdorfer’s baby, who was in a car seat in the back seat, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River in stable condition.
The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and Prosecutor’s Office are conducting an investigation into the accident.
Mrs. Eisdorfer and her family settled in Toms River three weeks ago after previously living in Laurel in the Pines in Lakewood. She leaves behind her husband, R’ Yacov Dovid, and their three children.
Mrs. Eisdorfer is a daughter of Rabbi and Mrs. Meir Bergman of Brooklyn, NY.
Her husband, R’ Yacov Dovid, hails from Montreal, where he studied at Yeshiva Gedolah Mercaz Hatorah of Montreal, becoming a close talmid of the rosh yeshiva, Rav Yaakov Bistritz zt”l. He then learned at Yeshivas Brisk in Yerushalayim and at Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood.
The tragic passing of Mrs. Eisdorfer has plunged family, friends and all Yidden, from Lakewood, to Brooklyn, to Montreal and beyond, into mourning.
