To accommodate its religious employees, the secular Yedioth Ahronoth paper sent a letter to its workers announcing: “I once again request that you not bring non-kosher food of any kind into the building. Please note that bringing non-kosher food into the building will be regarded a disciplinary offense. Please respect the instructions and observe the rules of kashrus in the building.”

The letter disgruntled many workers.

“I strongly protest the religious coercion being pushed into my sandwiches,” head graphics designer Orna Oshri complained. “It’s a shame that even a private workplace has come to this. A workplace that works on Shabbos is demanding kosher food? What hypocrisy. Chillul Shabbos is far worse in Judaism than eating non-kosher food.”
