A bone-chilling “hazardous weather outlook” was issued today by the National Weather Service (NWS) for the tri-state area, NYC Patch reports.

A very cold air mass will spread into the area late tonight and Thursday and remain into Shabbos morning.

During that time, government forecasters warned of “northwest winds gusting 20-35 mph across the area,” pushing wind chill values down to the single digits in the NYC metro area. New York City is expecting the coldest temperatures and lowest wind chills of the season on Thursday and Friday, NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito warned.

Extremely cold temperatures and low wind chills could possibly take us near the subzero zone on Thursday and Friday, and coat city streets in snow and/or ice. There’s a 60 to 80 percent chance of snow overnight Friday until Shabbos at noon. There could be a buildup of 1 to 2 inches of snow on city surfaces. Read more at NYC Patch.
