President Trump said Tuesday that he feels “sad” about the conviction of his former campaign manager — but refused to comment on his fixer Michael Cohen’s guilty plea.

“Paul Manafort’s a good man. He was with Ronald Reagan, he was with a lot of different people over the years, and I feel very sad about that. It doesn’t involve me, but I still feel it’s a very sad thing that happened,” he told reporters after arriving in Charleston, W.Va., for a rally.

Weighing in shortly after Manafort was found guilty of tax evasion, Trump insisted that even though the charges came out of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, they were unrelated.

“It has nothing to do with Russian collusion. It’s a witch hunt and it’s a disgrace … This started out they were looking for Russians involved in our campaigns, there were none,” he said.
